Widely used in common household items, a Check Valve is a plumbing fixture that allows liquid or gas to flow in a single direction. It can also be referred to as clack, non-return, reflux, retention, or one-way valve. The most common residential application of this valve is in heating systems to prevent vertical convection. In that case, they can also be know as gravity brakes.  When selecting a check valve, consider the pressure of the incoming flow. This pressure is called cracking pressure.
